2009, Sixth Annual KTC Minneapolis Meditation-thon 26 Feb - 4 Mar
Friday, February 20th, 2009Tibetan Buddhism uses a Lunar calendar. New Year’s day is a holiday named Losar. In 2008, Losar is Wednesday February 25th. In Buddhism, the first lunar month of the new year is considered to be particularly auspicious for doing as much practice as one can, wih high lamas including H.H. Dalai Lama and advanced practitioners often doing practice retreats up to a month long. The beneficial results of practices in these retreats are considered to be multiplied many times over. Very important when one considers that a slight bit of accomplishment is all society needs for (badly needed - parens - lama la) dramatic improvement. dre
At KTC Minneapolis, a Minnesota Buddhist Center associated with the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism western practitioners, patrons, and volunteers have sat in meditation 24X7 since Losar 2004 asking anyone inerested in supporting relief of suffering for all sentient beings to sponsor each minute of this healing peaceful meditation at the rate of $1.00 per minute. Other than one summertime garage sale each year this is the only fundraising we do.
My feeling is that there is an enormous amount of suffering in our world today, perhaps more than anyone alive now has ever seen before, and the formless meditation we do, in our annual Meditation-thon in particular, is of great benefit. Sponsorship of this meditation can be dedicated to a particular cause, person, other being, or relief of suffering for all sentient beings. You can choose the meditator you would like to do your sponsored meditation, and the time you would like it to be done. As the title of this posting says, this year meditation will take place from Feb 26th to Mar 4th. We will start sitting at 8AM on the 26th and end at 8AM on the 4th. Please call the Center to be involved in sitting and/or sponsorship. The KTC Minneapolis phone number is (952) 926-5048.
